The historical roots of Scandia began in the late-nineteenth century when Norwegian settlers immigrated to this area to work the land. Their influence remains in the town's architecture, culture, and even its name--Scandia is derived from the Latin for Scandinavia. Today, much of the architecture reflects its Scandinavian roots and the feel of the town remains rooted in its origin. The Church of the Harvest and other historical sites are popular destinations for tourists. Just a short drive from Seattle, Scandia also offers visitors a chance to experience the great outdoors without having to travel too far.
